GSHS Jazz Band and Vocal Ensemble

Directed by Ms Lee-Anne Fortuin and Ms Ronel Nagfaal
The Groote Schuur High School band was formed in September 2012 (mentored by Lee-Anne Fortuin) and since then has grown into a Junior Band under the guidance of Ms Nagfaal and Senior Band under the guidance of Ms Fortuin.
The bands have performed at the Arts and Culture Focus Schools Live Performance Workshop which forms part of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.  They have performed at concerts and music evenings held at Groote Schuur High School and at Valentine's Day picnics held on the lawns at the school. They have also performed at the Jazz on the Lawn Festival hosted by St Josephs Marist College as well as the Baxter Theatre. The Jazz Bands have performed at Kelvin Grove Club and at Kenilworth Centre and in 2014 they, together with the Vocal Ensemble, were invited to be the opening act for SHAKATAK at Maynardville.
The bands have a versatile repertoire consisting of different tunes of different genres, such as local and international Jazz, Pop, House, Contemporary, Reggae and Rock.

Jazz band 2013The Ensemble was formed in February 2012. It consists of all Vocal Studies Music students who are pursuing vocals as their main practical instrument. The group has a variety of very talented singers.
They have performed at numerous functions that take place at Groote Schuur High School, such as the annual High Tea, Easter services, music evenings and concerts that are held at the school including Valentine's Day picnics. They perform at the Jazz on the Lawn Festival at St Josephs Marist College which is held annually. They were entered into their first competition in 2013, and they won their category at the annual FACETS competition held at San Souci High School both in 2013 and 2014.
This versatile group has a repertoire consisting of different genres such as Jazz, Pop and Contemporary.
